With this commercial-quality vacuum packaging system, home cooks can take advantage of in-store specials and stock up on seasonal fruit and produce. This innovative sealing method stores perishables in an airtight package, where they won't be prone to rotting, becoming stale, or drying out. Vacuum-packed foods have a shelf life that is five times longer than foods stored by other methods and can safely be kept in the pantry, refrigerator, or freezer without losing their flavor or texture. In addition to its use in the kitchen, this system can seal valuables for protection from air and moisture damage and prevent boating or camping supplies from getting wet. This kit comes with a stack of twenty pre-cut 8-by-12-inch bags and a roll of 11-1/2-by-20-foot bagging material for creating custom-sized storage bags with the Champion vacuum packaging machine's stainless-steel cutter. The machine has a sealing strip that vacuums out all air to provide a tight seal and operates automatically or semi-automatically, depending on its setup. A manual seal process is also offered as a choice for vacuum packaging more delicate foods. A timer adjusts the sealing time so it is longer for thicker bags and shorter for slender bags or continuous sealing, and a manual override button aborts the sealing process until the right amount of vacuum suction is achieved. I love this item. It's hard plastic and the perfect shape. It came with my cuisinart food processor but I use it to cut brownies, cakes, pastries in the baking pan without scratching my bakeware. It is perfect for cutting and then lifting it out. This is pretty much all I use for this purpose. Others have seen me use it and have asked for it. In fact when I borrowed some a couple times they misteriously disappeared so I had to order some for back-up. I could never find them in the stores but had luck at Amazon. I have given several as gifts and even gave some to relatives in Europe they liked it so much. Definately worth it for the price.

The Bad:

It Broke - I trust the Cuisinart brand, so I bought this blender. about 30 uses later, in the middle of a party, I smelled something burning and the motor's RPM dropped and seemed to be having problems. The "blade assembly" on the bottom had seized. the bottom "clutch" piece as I hear it's called, sheared some of the plastic off the bottom. I'm not sure where the failure actually occurred (under/outside the jar or inside the jar near the blades) but some part of the blade assembly's axle broke. Thankfully I had an old 70's era Oster blender and went back to that. the oster definitely wasn't as good! but it worked! I asked Cuisinart to send me a new blade assembly, and they did, but I had to pay to send the broken one back (less than $3 via USPS).

Tapered Bottom - The bottom of the blender tapers too much, so that the blades sit in their little hole. if you're blending something thick or icy, the blades like to push the mixture up and create a little air bubble down there, and the mixture doesn't get to sink back down. in the photo it looks like the base is very large, but it's not. A way to work around this is to put all the liquids in first and then slowly add your solids or ice.

Pour Spout - the top of the blender has a pour spout but it's pretty much useless for the things you'd be blending. it's better to use one of the corners, but even then, it's so wide that you'd better have a very wide cup. i have very wide cups (3.75", I just measured) at the top, but with thick mixtures, the "pour width" is still too wide.

Motor fan problem? - at the beginning, the motor would make some weird noises which seemed like the fan attachment on the bottom was coming loose. but i haven't heard it for a while now.

The Good

THE POWER - ice? what ice? all you have is fine snowflakes in your blender after a few seconds. This is the basic test for blenders IMO. That oster I described earlier is terrible compared to this Cuisinart. there would always be at least one big chunk of ice bouncing around in the Oster which it could never get to. Not with this cuisinart.

Build Quality - it's almost all glass and steel. the base seems solid, but not as heavy as it might look in the picture. the pitcher is pretty heavy glass, it would work well as a defensive weapon. The lid is thick but pliable rubber, seems like it will last a lifetime.

Timer - the timer on the front shows you how long you've been blending in Min:Sec. pretty useful if instructions/recipes call for a specific duration.

The Other:

the handle is plastic, but I don't see why it would need to be any stronger. works fine for me. There are only 3 speeds; low, high, and Ice Crush, which is a pulse setting only. there is also a pulse button which allows you to pulse blend at the low or high speeds. The other two buttons are On and Off. I've never had to use Ice Crush in order to crush ice (which is involved in everything i make). I always use the Low setting. the top hole and plastic cover could seal together a bit better, but i haven't had any problems or have anything fly out yet.

If it didn't have the blade assembly failures, I'd give this a 4/5 (5/5 for the price I paid). maybe you'll have better luck. Cuisinart claims to sell the blade assembly for $10.

Though this blender has a lot of power I have 2 concerns about it. There isn't a very good spout for pouring therefore you do have to improvise if you don't want the drink all over the counter. The one that concerns me most is that the glass does not disconnect from the base for cleaning, therefore a residue is trapped beetween the two of them. You can see this film (I think of it as bacteria) but you can't get to it.

The people who complained about difficulty pouring from the pitcher are correct, it can be messy. The blender is loud, but it does the job IF you allow it time to work.

If you are impatient, you will be frustrated by an incomplete job. I use mine for frozen daiquiris and the result is excellent, but slow.

So in a nutshell: thorough; noisy; slow.

This bowl is a replacement for the one that came with our food processor. The bottom tab that secures it to the motor broke and due to the safety shutoff with the tab broken you had to push down on the bowl or it would not run. We love the food processor and use it much more then we thought when we first got it but I can't say that the quality is best.

I thought these blades were supposed to fit the 11-cup Cuisinart I ordered separately, but they didn't. I then ordered a 14-cup Cuisinart and waited til it came in, but it didn't fit it either. I assume these must fit the rectangular shaped Cuisinarts since they don't fit the newer oval-shaped base Cuisinarts. The blades really are "a really good buy" (there are 7 of them and they would cost much more individually, and even though they are in an older box, they are still new blades) - if you have a Cusinart they fit. Unfortunately, I don't, but I still have the blades.

With this handy blade, why would anyone attempt a super thin slice with a knife? Cuisinart makes the job so much easier and the results look professional. My kids love homemade potato chips and my previous option was a mandolin. The slicing results are similar but this blade cuts the time in half ( probably less) which gives you a fresher potato. In seconds you have an entire batch ready to wash and fry up. The thin slicing blade is not just for potatoes, obviously. You're limited only by your imagination. It would be wonderful if Cuisinart included all their blades in the original purchase but this one is worth adding to your collection. You can't really go wrong with Cuisinart.
